TYPE OF ARTIFACT:
Our object, the flyer, is made normally with the same material which the spinning wheel is made (our object, because it was the first type of spinning wheels that existed, is made of wood completely, except for the part that pulled of the wool, which is made of iron or lead.. However, actually there are many different types of flyers, such as of plastic, to make it more resistant.
SPECIAL QUALITIES OF THE ARTIFACT:
This artifact has a round shape, with a small peak at the bottom, whic after would be connected to the maidens and hte stool to be suportted and to obtain the neccesary wool. It has also a flyer whorl that is attached to the round part of the flyer, which is attached to the belt and the wheels and make the flyer turn. When the flyer turn, its function is to pass the wool through the that has on its top, and transported to the wheel, where the main process is made. We can say that our artifact plays a very important role in the most early part of the process, storing and then transporting the wool with all its attached accesories. It's not very big or heay because needs to be maintained on the top of the spinning wheel and also is better to be small so that the wool can be transported from one part to the other quicker. Its only movable parts are the flyer whorl, explained before why it need to move in circles so that the wool can make its way through. There' not any inscription or writting that we can observe.
